EV brake service built for regenerative braking

Quiet, smooth brakes again, and pads and rotors that last as long as they should. On an EV the motor does most of the stopping, so the brakes wear slowly but rust fast in our humidity. We clean, free up and lubricate them, replace what is really worn, and give you a written price first.

EV brake service

  • Inspect pads, rotors, calipers and slides for rust, seizing and uneven contact, the real problems on EV brakes
  • Clean and lubricate caliper slides and pad contact points so the brakes release fully
  • Replace pads and rotors only when they are actually worn or too rusted to save
  • Test brake fluid for moisture and flush it, since fluid absorbs water in a humid climate
  • Put the car in service mode to safely retract the electric parking brake before working on rear brakes
  • Check the blend between regenerative and friction braking and clear any brake fault codes
  • Road test to confirm the pedal feel and no noise

Signs you need this

  • Grinding or scraping for the first few stops after rain or a few days parked
  • A squeal or a rubbing noise at low speed
  • The car pulls to one side when you brake hard
  • A rusty lip on the edge of the rotor or a brake wear warning
  • A burning smell or one wheel hotter than the others after a drive
  • The parking brake is noisy or slow to release

We check the factory warranty first, and while brake pads are usually a wear item, a stuck caliper or a fault in the brake system may still be covered. You get a written price before work starts. Tax is on parts only. You choose how long we guarantee the job: 90 days, 1 year or 2 years.

Questions people ask

What is regenerative braking?
When you lift off the pedal, the motor runs backward as a generator. It slows the car and sends energy back into the battery. That is why one-pedal driving works and why your brake pads barely get used.
If my pads barely wear, why do the brakes need service?
Because they sit. Pads and rotors that are not used rust in our humidity, and caliper slides stick. Then the brake drags, grinds or does not release. A cleaning every year or so keeps them working and saves you from replacing rusted parts.
Is that grinding after rain normal?
A little surface rust that scrapes off in the first stop or two is normal. Grinding that lasts, or comes back every morning, means the pads are not making full contact or a caliper is sticking.
Do EVs need brake fluid changes?
Yes, and it is easy to forget because the brakes get so little use. Brake fluid pulls moisture from the air, and wet fluid lowers the boiling point and corrodes parts from the inside. We test it and flush it on the schedule your car calls for.
Why is the parking brake a special step?
Most EVs have an electric parking brake built into the rear caliper. It has to be retracted in service mode before pads come out, or the motor can be damaged. We do this on every rear brake job.
