Charging trouble at a condo or garage
A lot of Fort Lauderdale EVs charge in a condo, apartment or office garage. When charging gets slow or stops, it is hard to know whether to call the building or a shop. We test the car's side: the charge port, the latch, the onboard charger and the fault codes they leave behind.
If the car checks out, you know the problem is the charger on the wall, and you can take that to the building.
Recalls worth checking
Some of the most common EVs on Broward roads have had recalls on batteries or charging parts. The Chevrolet Bolt had a battery recall. Some Hyundai and Kia EVs, including the Ioniq 5 and EV6, had recalls on the charging control unit that also keeps the 12V battery charged. Ford has issued recalls on the Mach-E as well.
A recall is fixed by the dealer at no cost to you, so it is the first thing we check.
Salt air, heat and EV brakes
Close to the coast, salt air and humidity rust the brakes that regenerative braking leaves idle. Heat shortens the life of the 12V battery and ages the big battery faster when the car sits fully charged in the sun. EVs are heavy and quick, so tires wear faster too.
A yearly check of brakes, tires, the 12V battery and battery health catches these early.
