Charge port repair

  • Test the charge port door, latch motor and release so the plug goes in, locks and comes out
  • Inspect pins for burn marks, corrosion and water, which our rain season sends into ports
  • Diagnose charging error and slow-charge messages by reading the charger and port control modules
  • Test the onboard charger that turns wall power into battery power on Level 1 and Level 2
  • Check DC fast charge paths on cars that fast charge often, like rideshare EVs
  • Replace port assemblies, latches, doors and seals with parts that match the car's plug type
  • Check the factory warranty by VIN first, since charging hardware is often still covered

How the price works

First we look up whether the charging hardware is still under factory coverage, and if it is, that repair is the manufacturer's to pay. If not, you get a written price before we start. Tax is charged on parts only. Pick the warranty that fits you: 90 days, 1 year or 2 years.

Questions people ask

Why will my car not charge at home but charges fine at a public charger?
That usually points to the onboard charger or the home charging equipment rather than the port itself. Public fast chargers skip the onboard charger. We test both ends so you replace the right thing.
Can water in the charge port cause damage?
Yes. Rain season and flooded streets push water into ports, and a wet or corroded pin can arc and burn. If you see moisture or dark marks, get it looked at before you plug in again.
My plug is stuck in the port. What do I do?
Most cars have a manual release, usually a cable in the trunk or near the port. Check your owner's manual, and do not force the plug. If the latch is failing, it will happen again and we can fix it.
Do you handle different plug types and adapters?
Yes. We repair ports for every plug standard used on today's EVs and can check whether an adapter, not the car, is the reason you cannot charge.
I drive rideshare and fast charge twice a day. Does that wear the port?
It does. Every plug cycle wears the latch and pins, and heat from fast charging adds to it. A yearly look at the port and pins is cheap next to a dead car on a Friday night.
