How the price works

Diagnostic time is quoted in writing as a fixed amount before we start, and it is a separate line from any repair. Repair parts are the only thing taxed. When you approve a repair, you also choose its warranty, 90 days, 1 year or 2 years, which sets the final price.

Questions people ask

What is the difference between diagnostics and a code read?
A code read takes a minute and tells you which system complained. Diagnostics is the testing that follows, to find the actual failed part or wire. The first is free at any parts counter, the second is where the skill is.
The problem only happens sometimes. Can you still find it?
Usually, yes. We can leave a recorder on the car, ride with you, or recreate the conditions like hot idle in traffic. Intermittent problems take longer, so we set expectations on time before we start.
Do you diagnose noises, or only electronics?
Both. Clunks, hums, whines and rattles are a big part of the day. Chassis ears and a lift tell us a lot that a scan tool cannot.
Will the diagnostic fee count toward the repair?
The diagnosis and the repair are quoted as separate lines so you can see exactly what you are paying for. We tell you the diagnostic amount up front and it does not change once we are in the middle of testing.
Can you diagnose a car that another shop already worked on?
Yes, and it happens a lot. Bring whatever paperwork you have. We look at what was done, test what is still wrong, and tell you straight whether the earlier repair was the issue.
