Coolant loss with no visible leak (2019 to 2020 2.5L)

Some 2019 and 2020 RAV4s with the 2.5L are known to lose coolant with no visible leak because of porosity in the engine block casting. A slowly dropping overflow tank on those years should be checked, not topped up and forgotten.

8-speed lurch or hesitation (2019 and newer)

2019 and newer RAV4s with the 8-speed automatic are known to lurch or hesitate at low speed. A fluid service and software update often help; we check the transmission first.

12V battery drain when parked (2019 and newer)

Newer RAV4s are known to drain the 12V battery when parked for days, sometimes tied to a module not sleeping. If yours dies after a week at the airport, that is not just a bad battery.

Questions people ask

My 2019 RAV4 keeps needing coolant. Should I worry?

Enough to have it checked. Those years are known for block porosity, and some are covered by the manufacturer. We pressure test, check for external leaks, and tell you whether it points to the block so you can pursue coverage.

Do you service the RAV4 hybrid?

Yes. The hybrid RAV4 shares its system with other Toyota hybrids. Hybrid battery testing, inverter coolant, and hybrid brakes are all covered.

How often should the AWD fluids be changed?

Around 60,000 miles for the transfer case and rear differential, sooner if you tow or drive through flooded streets in the rain season. Water in the differential is a real Miami problem.

Which oil?

0W-20 full synthetic on 2010 and newer, and 0W-16 on some 2019 and newer models per the cap. We follow the cap.
