Questions people ask

How do I know if the noise is my differential or something else?
A differential whine usually changes with road speed, not engine speed. Wheel bearings and tires can make similar noises, so a road test and an inspection is how we know for sure. We find the source before we quote a repair.
My 4WD light is flashing. What does that mean?
On many trucks, a flashing 4WD light means the system tried to shift and could not finish, or found a fault. The cause can be electrical, like a switch, the wiring or the shift motor, or it can be mechanical. A scan and an inspection tell us which.
How often should differential and transfer case fluid be changed?
Check your owner's manual. Intervals vary a lot from one vehicle to the next, and many are shorter for towing or off-road use. Each one uses its own specified fluid, which is not always the same as the transmission's.
Why does my truck hop or bind in tight turns in 4WD?
Many trucks have part-time 4WD, meant for loose or slippery ground. On dry pavement it can bind, hop or skip in tight turns. That is how the system works, not a failure, but driving that way can damage the transfer case and axles, so check your owner's manual for how yours should be used.
Can a leaking seal be fixed without a big repair?
Often, yes. A leaking axle or pinion seal can usually be fixed with a new seal and fresh gear oil, if it is caught before the bearings are damaged. Waiting lets the level drop and the gears and bearings wear.
