Why does it only shift hard when the car is hot?
Old fluid thins out when hot, and Miami traffic keeps it hot. That can make shifts late and harsh. Fresh fluid and a check of the transmission cooler usually help.
Is a clunk going into drive or reverse normal?
A soft bump is normal. A loud clunk usually means a worn mount or low fluid. Get it looked at before it breaks something else.
Can a software update fix hard shifting?
On some cars, yes. Before we replace parts, we check if the maker has a known fix for that problem.
Can I keep driving with hard shifts?
Usually yes, for a short time, if it is not slipping. Drive gently and book it this week. Hard shifts that turn into slipping get expensive.
